After a successful medical Chelsea FC finally has their first major signing of the summer. After much speculation regarding his desire to join Barcelona over Chelsea, Zhirkov seemingly settled for the blues. Chelsea moved in top spot after swooping in with an 18 million-pound offer. Chelsea interim coach Guus Hiddink dropped Zhirkov’s name numerous times during his stay claiming he was a perfect fit within the Chelsea dynamic. Zhirkov clearly comes highly touted but, with the likes of Carvalho, Deco and even Ashley Cole in exit lane, the Zhirkov signing seems more like a plugged hole in the absence of top rated additions. The dubbed – ‘’Russian Ronaldinho’’ – is a player of pace, clever footwork, and an injection of flair into the starting XI, something Chelsea has been lacking. Last weeks signing, Daniel Sturridge, is a fine young prospect with a lot of potential but Chelsea has always been a team of now rather than later, and with Ancelotti at the helm winning is priority number one.
