Dennis Lachter, the agent of Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin who reportedly parted company with the player last month, has insisted that he is still his representitive.

The Russian international joined the Emirates Stadium outfit from Zenit St Petersburg at the beginning of February for £15 million, and enjoyed an explosive start to his Premier League career, netting six league goals in 12 appearances, including four against Liverpool at Anfield.

However, the diminutive playmaker’s relationship with Lachter was thought to have broken down due to the latter’s decision to conduct his business from Israel following the birth of his son.

Arshavin cited ‘operational problems’ as a major reason behind his choice to go it alone, stating: “Recently I sent a formal letter to Dennis Lachter, which said that I do not want him to continue to represent me and that I will act on my own behalf.”

However, Lachter has denied that he is no longer working as the player’s agent.

“We have a contract; this contract will be finished in one and a half years. Until then, I am the manager of Andrey Arshavin,” he told

“He sent me a letter. It’s like entering a contract with Arsenal or anybody else; there are obligations. If you think that you can just cancel this formal relationship between two parties only because of a newborn baby … well you can’t do it. That’s it. I’m his agent.”

And Lachter was also quick to rubbish reports on Tuesday, quoting him, that Barcelona had been encouraged to make a bid for the Russian star.

“I’ve never spoken with Barcelona and I think that somebody is just trying to get a story,” he said.

“All this stuff is made up. Two months ago I heard a lot about some kind of conflict between Arshavin and other Arsenal players. It’s bullshit.”
